Egypt: Cairo Southern Zone Composting

The project involves the development of a treatment, recycling and disposal facility for the purpose of processing solid waste that is collected and received on a daily basis from the Southern Zone of Cairo. Waste received includes municipal solid waste, construction and demolition waste and non hazardous industrial waste. Processes conducted in the treatment facility involve the following:
However instead of receiving 1500 tonnes, at the moment on average only 374 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day are currently delivered to the composting facility. Based on data for 2007 from the ECARU administration, provided by Mrs Dalia Essmat of ENTAG/ECARU on August 24, 2007 The demolition waste contains limited organic matter and is directly transferred to the landfill.
